Ben Moffat is a freelance photojournalist in Poughkeepsie, New York. He is available for assignment locally or anywhere else via planes, trains and/or automobiles.

He is a graduate of the Walter Cronkite School of Journalism and Mass Communication at Arizona State University.

Currently, he contributes to ZUMA Press, the picture agency that represents him. Most recently, he worked on a project on the aftermath of Hurricanes Irma and Maria in Puerto Rico. He was a sustainability reporter for Cronkite News in Washington, D.C., covering Arizona's environmental issues on Capitol Hill and beyond.

He spent a year interning at The Arizona Republic, and worked on an award-winning Cronkite News investigative team reporting on abuse of prescription opioids in Arizona.

Ben previously worked at The State Press, ASU's award-winning digital student-operated news publication, as a photo editor, assistant photo editor and staff photographer.

In his free time, Ben plays bass (and sometimes drums) in his band, Foxy and the Ladies. He enjoys road trips, crossword puzzles and opening way more browser tabs than he can reasonably handle.

In addition to Cronkite News, the Republic and The State Press, Ben's work has been published by a variety of other outlets, including The Associated Press, The Seattle TimesASU NowArizona PBS HorizonThe Daily Mail, Yahoo NewsDiscover MagazineThe East Valley Tribune and more.

Ben's work has been recognized in professional categories of the Arizona Press Club's annual photojournalism awards, and by the Society of Professional Journalists with a first-place regional Mark of Excellence award. He has won second place and two honorable mentions in the Cronkite school's Greg Crowder Memorial Photojournalism Award. He contributed to Cronkite News' "Hooked Rx: From Prescription to Addiction," an investigation into abuse of prescription opioids, which placed eighth in the 2017 national Hearst awards.
